Introduction to the Colorado ENERGY STAR ® and Energy Saving Mortgage Programs

Homebuyers and Homeowners can obtain a substantially reduced mortgage interest rate on the purchase or refinance of a Colorado home when certain energy efficiency or renewable energy systems are included in the construction or renovation of the home.

This is an excellent loan for improving a home with: insulation, air sealing, windows, doors, upgraded furnace, hot water heater, or boiler, solar panels, or efficient lighting. Many other improvements are possible.

This mortgage product is provided through a cooperative venture between BOC and the Governor's Energy Office and provides a reduced interest rate for home buyers that invest in an ENERGY STAR rated home or  choose to renovate an existing home for Energy Efficiency.

CFL bulbs contain trace amounts of mercury (about the volume of the ball on a ball point pen), so they should not be recycled or thrown in landfill trash. You can bring your used CFLs into the 4CORE Durango office at 835 E. 2nd Avenue, Suite 440, or take them to La Plata Electric Association.

If the CFL is broken, sweep or wipe it up with a wet rag (do not vacuum up the pieces, as this can dissipate mercury into the air).

Yes, but not more than 10 degrees. Any more than this will cause your heater to work hard to bring the temperature back up to a comfortable place, and will reduce the efficiency of your system.

Programmable thermostats are a great way to make these temperature adjustments automatic and there are rebates from many utilities for them. More on rebates here.

Yes. While it's true each individual product draws relatively little standby power, when added together, standby power, or "vampire watts" can amount to 10% of residential electricity use. Download this .pdf for more information.
